Medical home and the pharmacist

David Bates has great commentary in the latest AJHP on the pharmacists role in the Medical Home.

First, thanks to Dr Bates to point on this fantastic opportunity for pharmacists to expand their role.

A new report by the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, part of Deloitte LLP. points out that pharmacists can be the center of the medical home. EHR's and eRx's will help facilitate the model.

There is a no prescription

There is a no prescription online pharmacy now that has just about everything your local pharmacy would have and a lot cheaper. Anytime I need to fill one i'm usually at walmart but started to get them filled online now.

Online Prescription

I dont get is online consultations, a doctor should be patient near so a proper diagnosis. How can pharmacist be able to give you the right medications if you do not even know if the analysis you have is right or wrong. Also watch out from no rx online pharmacies especially if they are offering you medicines without even lookong in your prescriptions.

Patient interaction

I question just how much time a pharmacist spends clinically reviewing the medications a patient takes, and submit that the current model for delivering drugs without clinical knowledge of detailed patient condition is broken. In essence, we need to be WHERE the physicians and nurses are, not in a grocery store.
